NUTCRACKER 2023: General Info
It’s a “Nutcracker Year!” December 2 & December 3!! We are very excited! The Nutcracker works a bit differently than the ‘recital’. In the recital, every class has their own dance. Nutcracker is a story ballet w/ defined parts. While every class does not have their own dance, every student has the opportunity to participate in the performance!
For dancers who are only in a Tap class or Adv Hip Hop– you may participate with a different class. Contact Cindy: misscindy@cortlandperformingarts.com.
We will be posting which show your dancer will be in! And again, due to the nature of the show, we cannot guarantee that all siblings will be together, etc. If you dancer is in more than one show (or siblings are in different shows), we suggest watching one, and helping backstage with the other. All backstage helpers drop the dancers off at the stage door – and then may go watch them from the audience. Angels & Snowflakes may be able to dance w/ a different class.
Performances will be held at Dowd Fine Arts, SUNY Cortland. There will be 3 shows: Sat Dec 2 @ 1pm & 6pm and Sun Dec 3 @ 1pm
NUTCRACKER TICKETS: PRICES: Adult: $22. // Senior/Student: $18. // Child (under 12yrs): $15.

NUTCRACKER COSTUMES
Unlike costumes for the Spring recital (which is included in your tuition fee) - costumes for Nutcracker belong to us. You do not have to buy a costume! There will be a $10. per costume rental/cleaning fee. Each dancer is required to buy a leotard that is used w/ the costumes. (see chart below) You will keep the leotard for future use! We will be ordering the leotards soon. (approx. cost: $25.) If you already have a leotard/shirt from a previous show/sibling (including skin tone) … LET US KNOW BY SAT, OCT 14.
Shoe/Tights: Dancers participating in the Nutcracker will also need:
GIRLS: pink tights, pink ballet shoes (*Party Scene ‘boys’ must wear black jazz shoes.)
BOYS: black jazz pants or male black tights, black ballet shoes or black jazz shoes.
*BEFORE you buy extra shoes… be sure to check our ‘hand me down’ box!
DANCE PARTS by CLASS:
Below are the assigned parts by class, as well as the leotard they will wear. We are ordering all leotards for you. Again, if you already have one of the leotards/shirts (including skin tone) from a previous sibling/show– let us know by Sat Oct 14.
Show Casts (which class performs in each show) will be determined soon! SOME classes will be combined!
